To Write Or Not To Write

Until 2010, I’d never worked in a position that overwhelmingly became how the world sees and defines me. Having worked in multiple industries and companies, (for myself and in family business), working as Destiny Man editor was the first real time that people introduced me by my job title first. For the first time, it wasn’t difficult to answer the question that Johannesburg seems to love so much: “so what do you do?” Before that, I was seen as a poet, businessperson, TV producer, writer, etc but that was never all that people saw me as. It is interesting, for me, how, in just over four...

Get A Free Office Efficiency Assessment

I’ve been involved in Nashua’s Saving You Time campaign for a couple of weeks now. I have been using it to add impetus to my own drive to become a bit more efficient on a personal level particularly because I have never been a person who has been able to do only one thing. Before, during and after university, I was working in family businesses, in management consulting, IT (in particular identification technologies, biometrics and specialised software), retail (a shop supplying hair products and cosmetics to hair salons) and a weekly newspaper, all in Maseru. Currently, while my work life is...

Create Xmas Card With WeChat

While social media has cut into the instant messaging space, apps like Whatsapp and BBM continue to battle it out for a presence on our mobile devices. TenCent, with WeChat, has carved out a significant space for itself in the Asian markets as a social messaging service. Launched in Africa, with its primary base in South Africa (Naspers owns a stake in Tencent), a few months back, WeChat has been aggressively establishing itself in SA and across the continent , firstly with its ad with Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi, and with the WeChat Guy. (See article I wrote on DESTINY Man site:...

Ken Block’s Gymkhana 6

Ken Block is the man when it comes to precision driving. I have previously posted his Gymkhana Five as well as a clip from when he was featured on Top Gear. Finally, he’s done Gymkhana 6: The Ultimate Gymkhana Grid Course with the guys from Need For Speed Rivals, for which he was the racing consultant. Gymkhana 5 was done through the streets of San Francisco which is probably hard to top but .... I could tell you how dope it is but it makes better sense for you to just watch. http://youtu.be/WUO-lPubXeI

Flashmob Recreates Rembrandt’s The Night Watch

The Night Watch is a painting by the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn that was finished in 1642.  Considered one of his most famous, it is displayed at the Netherlands national museum, Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam. In April this year, to celebrate the reopening of the Rijksmuseum, which underwent renovations over a 10 year period costing about $480 million, a flashmob recreated The Night Watch in a local shopping mall. Brilliantly done. I just had to share.

Random Thoughts: The Future of Holidaying

When I was in my teens and in university, my father always insisted on family holidays, particularly around Christmas. We would pile into the car and head to Swaziland, Durban or East London or something. Before that, I generally spent my Christmas holidays in Germany with relatives in addition to one year in the US for about three weeks. Travel is a wonderful thing. It puts life into perspective. In the last two years, I’ve been fortunate enough to get a great deal of perspective, travelling regularly for work even though, at times, it has often been for only a couple of days in each place...
