Who Is The Greatest Footballer Ever?

Every June - July is always one of the hardest periods for football fans world wide, with most leagues winding down in May and kicking off in August. All of a sudden, you wake up on Saturday or Sundays and there is nothing to watch. You end up watching other sports, finding things to do but they don’t quite fill that gap. Every four years, at least, things are a little different and 2014 is one of those. It’s the FIFA World Cup in Brazil - a month of the best football on the planet with some of the best players. This is also a time the debates around who the greatest footballers in history...

The Opening Ceremony

While what is considered the best ever Paralympics have come to an end, I am still basking in the memories of experiencing something that I'll possibly never have the opportunity to. And, even if I attend more, it is the first time that lingers the longest in memory. During my week, I took pictures endlessly and will be sharing them over the next few weeks. This first batch is of the opening ceremony. I must admit that, generally, I've never been big on opening or closing ceremonies and more interested in the sport. I saw neither of the Olympics ceremonies, other than the infrequent...

Ekhaya – SA’s Home Away From Home

It is not every day that an opportunity such as this arises: the chance to travel to the Paralympics to support the SA Paralympics Team and experience the amazing experience that any major global sporting event is. I’m in London as part of the “supporter wave” invited by Mercedes Benz who are one of the sponsors of the South African team having arrived yesterday morning early. Last week, I attended the farewell function for the team at the Sandton Convention Centre and was struck, once again, by how amazingly resilient we as human beings can be. Athletes achieve sometime unimaginable feats;...

Taking The Olympics Personally

As we live, and learn, and grow, we leave dreams by the wayside, and move onto other aspects of this thing called life. As a child, I was always into one sport or another, both playing and watching. Football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, the various track and field events, etc, I was into them all. I was generally competent or slightly above average at most sports never really showing any type of potential beyond school – until I discovered sprinting. My high school track was 200metres, instead of the traditional 400 metres, of grass and clay with the odd stone here and there. Running the...

Sony Ericsson Opens New Foursquare Horizons

There are so many different platforms, social networks, groups, etc, all designed to bring us closer and make us more social. When foursquare came on the scene, I just didn’t see its purpose … in the same way I didn’t really get twitter. After a chat with a friend and colleague about 6 months ago on what can actually be done with foursquare, I started dabbling. I do not have it linked to twitter – so I do not bombard people with my check-ins – and I only check in when in public places … and only sometimes. I like the idea of it turning into a resource where, when I check into a particular...

Fields of Anfield Road

For those who engage with me on twitter, you'll know that I am a Liverpool FC supporter and have been for as long as I can remember. The last year or so has been difficult as a Reds fan, made worse by the way Roy Hodgson had us playing this season. Kenny Dalglish has come in as a caretaker coach to steady and re-focus the ship. Many of us are hoping that he carries on beyond this season and brings us the glory of old. There is something about being a Liverpool supporter; even when sitting on the other side of the world, one feels very much a part of the history and spirit of the team. I have...
