On Thursday, 15 September, 2005, at 09:20am, I posted my first blog post on my Infinite Pursuit blog on Blogger. It was titled in the beginning. Since then, I have written countless words and shared on the internet, in one form or another. The ‘why’ has been less of an evolution and more of an erratic, sometimes frantic, internal debating, veering from building my writing chops to putting myself out there for work (ie. promotion and marketing of my writing services) to ‘why not?!’
A few months after that post, I posted my first post on a second blog – Imperfect Poetry – I started, also titled in the beginning (yeah, not that original) which was dedicated to rough drafts of poems I was writing.
Around 2009, I setup this site with the initial focus being on blogging about technology, music, motoring, lifestyle, arts, etc. I have had my moments of consistency when I was clear on the purpose of my site and the blog. I have had more moments of doubt with a smattering of laziness embracing the convenience of social media, especially Twitter in the early days, where I only needed to share bite-sized thoughts.
In the last decade, I have been extremely erratic with it all. I stopped writing on tech years ago, and have debated about starting that again but it feels like work to plug back into the ‘scene.’ I used to write on music, sharing interesting albums and artists that I came across and, as a result, have had the opportunity to attend listening sessions, access musicians for interviews, and the like.
I made the decision to stop writing for the media about five years ago, making an exception for Wanted Online, where I have a motorcycle column and a cigar column. As a result, I do very little writing in general, outside for corporate and brand clients.
I am trying to get back into writing for the sake of writing, for the sake of thinking, for the sake of engaging with life and the world around me …. essentially, just for the f— of it, without an objective or an expectation. Writing without worrying about word count or SEO or the expectation that anyone will read it. It is a strange place to be in this world where everything seems to be about engagement, promotion, monetisation, etc.
We’ll see how that goes.
